Lao Lao: Rice Alcohol Distillation

This is one of the two national drinks, the other being the Beer Lao.

Lao Lao is produced in many small villages along the Mekong. Locals take yeast and cooked sticky rice and place the mixture in small clay jars to ferment for 10 days. Then, the liquid is extracted into distillation barrels, resulting in Lao Lao, which is between 40-70% alcohol.
